What kind of tours do you offer?
We offer thoughtfully curated food and history experiences in Madrid, including small-group walking tours, specialty diet–friendly tours, English as a Foreign Language tours, and self-guided experiences for travelers who prefer to explore at their own pace. Each tour is designed to highlight local culture, traditional food, and meaningful storytelling — without leaving anyone out.
Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?
With advance notice, many of our tours can be adapted for vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, gluten-free, and dairy-free diets. We focus on naturally inclusive foods found within traditional Spanish cuisine rather than specialty restaurants, so that guests can comfortably return to these places with friends and family. Please note that not all requests can be guaranteed, as adaptations depend on availability, advance notice, and the limitations of traditional kitchens.
What about food allergies and cross-contamination?
Many traditional Spanish kitchens are small and fast-paced, which means cross-contamination may occur. If cross-contamination is a concern for you, please let us know before booking so we can speak directly with venues (when possible), suggest safer alternatives and help you decide if a tour is the right fit. While we do our best to accommodate a wide range of needs, we cannot always guarantee an allergen-free environment.
Are the tours accessible for mobility needs?
Yes — with advance notice, our walking tours can often be adapted for strollers, wheelchairs, and other mobility needs by adjusting routes, pacing, timing, or stops. Please reach out before booking so we can discuss what will make your experience most comfortable. Not all routes or venues may be accessible, but we’ll always be honest and work with you where possible.
Yes, all guided tours are walking tours. The average walking times, routes and speeds can vary with each tour, however, we can make adjustments when notified in advance of specific needs. Self-guided experiences are completed entirely at your own pace.
Are your gluten-free tours suitable for guests who need to avoid gluten?
Yes. Our gluten-free tour includes stops at restaurants that specialize in gluten-free practices and prepare dedicated gluten-free dishes, allowing you to enjoy traditional Spanish flavors with confidence. Three tastings take place at a local market where we sample naturally gluten-free foods like fruits, vegetables, and gildas. Because these are served in open market spaces, we cannot guarantee a completely contamination-free environment. If this is a concern, please mention it when booking and we can arrange an alternative approved stop. When reserving, please let us know if you are gluten-sensitive, gluten-intolerant, or are following a celiac-diet so we can prepare accordingly.
How long do the tours last?
Most guided tours last between 2.5–3.5 hours, depending on the experience. Self-guided experiences are designed to be enjoyed over a set access window (for example, 10 hours), allowing you to explore at your own pace. Exact timing details are listed on each tour page.
Some tours include traditional alcoholic drinks, with non-alcoholic options always available. Please let us know your preference when booking.
Are tours family-friendly?
Yes! Many tours are suitable for families and children. Specific age recommendations are listed on each tour page. If you’re unsure whether a tour is a good fit for your group, feel free to contact us.
Yes — and that’s part of what makes Spanish food so special. We eat seasonally in Spain, which means dishes and tastings may change depending on what’s fresh and available. Any changes are made thoughtfully and with care.
Can dietary adaptations affect the price?
In some cases, yes. Certain dietary requests may require additional planning, substitutions, or venue changes, which can result in a balanced price adjustment. We’ll always communicate this clearly and in advance.
How far in advance should I book?
We recommend booking as early as possible, especially if you have dietary needs, mobility considerations, or are traveling during busy seasons. Advance notice allows us to curate the best possible experience for you.
I’m not sure if a tour will work for me — what should I do?
That’s completely okay. Every guest’s needs are different. If you’re unsure, we encourage you to reach out before booking or review this FAQ in detail. We’re always happy to answer questions and help you decide if an experience is the right fit.
Can meat-eaters join the vegan tours?
Yes! Meat-eaters are absolutely welcome on our vegan-focused tours. These experiences are designed to be inclusive, delicious, and interesting for everyone. Please note that pricing may vary if guests would like meat options on these tours. Other arrangements or substitutions should be communicated in advance.
Is there any blood sausage (morcilla) on this tour?
No, there is no blood sausage or blood related food included on any of the tours that include meat options. For more information on which traditional dishes generally include blood related foods in Spain, please see The 'Guays' and Hows blog.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance of the scheduled tour time to be eligible for a refund or reschedule. Late cancellations and no-shows are not refundable. Please review the selected tour's page for full cancellation and late arrivals policies for that particular tour.
Can I join the tour just to observe if I don’t plan to eat?
Our tours are carefully curated, priced, and paced around the history and paired tastings. Not only would unpaid add-ons affect the experience but also our agreements with each venue. For this reason, we’re unable to allow individuals join the tour for observation-only purposes.
Are you vegan? Is this a political or activist tour?
We approach food from a cultural, historical, and human perspective, offering options that allow people with different dietary needs to enjoy Spanish cuisine together. The focus is on connection, tradition, and shared experience, not ideology. Neither is the company nor the guides vegan-only. As a whole, we take a neutral stand on world events and only speak of them for educational/historical context.
Can I get a substitution if I don't like a certain food?
To make sure everything runs smoothly, menus are planned and confirmed in advance. In many cases, our food and drink orders are sent to the restaurants before we even arrive. Therefore, we’re unable to make changes to the menu on the day of the tour because of personal preferences. We encourage all to come with an open mind and an adventurous palate. Many guests are surprised to discover that foods they thought they didn’t like taste completely different in a local, seasonal, and traditional context—and those unexpected favorites often become the highlight of the tour!
